Services

St James’ is rooted in the Anglo-Catholic tradition although many of our members come from other traditions.

We aim to make our worship vibrant and relevant. We are first and foremost a parish church serving the local community, although we have a growing number of church members who are not resident in the parish.

IMG 0130Lay people are increasingly involved in devising and leading worship. This includes occasional services using materials from Taizé, Iona and other sources, including resources from the Alternative Worship network.

Music and prayer: The music at St James’ is diverse, reflecting the variety of musical taste within the congregation. The best traditional hymns are joined by modern worship songs, shorter Iona and Taizé songs and chants, as well as songs from other parts of the world.

Sundays

8.00 am Holy Communion (said)

10.00 am Parish Eucharist

This is our main service of the week which follows the pattern of ‘Common Worship’

Children are very welcome in church during our services. Please do feel free to make use of our resources and toys in the Children’s corner or to make use of our crèche. The crèche runs during each Sunday 10am morning service for the under 4s. It is held in the choir vestry starting after the entrance hymn until the time of the Peace. Parents are welcome to stay with their children. The service can be heard in the crèche via an audio system. If your child is 4 or more they may wish to join us in the hall for JAM (Jesus And Me). JAM runs every Sunday during school term times except the first Sunday in the month.

11-Ups is the name given by the young people themselves to a small group aged 11-16.
