Baptism at St James'
We offer families the choice of baptism during the 10.00 am Parish Eucharist on Sundays, alongside the wider Church congregation, or at a more intimate 12.30 pm service with family and friends.
Whichever option you choose, a trained baptism visitor will support you throughout the process.
Who Can be Baptised Here?
Anyone living in the parish or with a connection to St James’ can be baptised here. If you live outside the parish, please talk to your own parish priest first.
Your Baptism Pathway
- Drop into the 10.00 am Parish Eucharist on a Sunday. Enjoy a coffee and get a feel for St James’.
- Contact the parish office.
- A baptism visitor will meet you at home or in the church to talk about dates, the service and godparents.
- Choose either the 10.00 am Parish Eucharist (about 75 minutes) or a 12.30 pm service (about 40 minutes).
Godparents
- Aim for at least three, if you can. Godparents need to have been baptised.
- Godparents promise to pray for the child and to model the Christian faith.
- Parents may act as godparents for their own children, provided there is at least one other godparent.

We'd love to see you again at any of our services or events.
